The ArtistBorn and raised in the south of England, Annalea spent most of her life in West Sussex, where she soaked up British countryside and allowed her imagination to grow. In 2005, Annalea found her way to Bloomington where she achieved a painting BFA amidst the changing seasons of Indiana’s artsy college scene.
The WorkThe emergence of an image from its blank beginning is what makes it magic. More recently, figures of memory and metaphor emerge out of the canvas, revealing a process- a pathway of thoughts and creativity, a human encounter, an earthy materiality. Hidden elsewhere in my work are influences of a rural childhood. Trees and green are important to me. Rain comes and rejuvenates the land. Flowers remind us that there is more to life than paperwork and deadlines. We are surrounded by beauty. The works on paper present a search for pieces of an undetermined puzzle. There is excite and wonderment when a piece of cardboard finds the right niche in a piece and suddenly becomes something else, it acquires a new function. It is reusable. It sparks illusion. The sculptural element of mixed media sometimes results in moments which thwart the boundary between flat and real space. I enjoy the tension between our world and it’s seeping into something synthetic. If you would like to enquire about commisions, prints or purchases, please contact Annalea via the tab on the menu.
